EVALUATION OF MY FINAL PIECE.

My final piece consists of four animated GIF files consisting of digital glitch art and one A3 physically manipulated photograph that holds methods that I used a lot during my experimentation. I chose to do both because I wanted to use many of my models expressions to share the idea that she is, in a way, unconscious in society and corrupt by the obsession with technology. This is why in my animations she is mostly holding some form of technology. I made my model stare blankly to show that they are completely taken over by electronics and she is passing by hundreds of people without noticing or affecting them. The black and white photographs are effective in that they make the vivid glitches stand out more and when animated give off a more ghostly feel, which of course ties in with my theme of passing by. I used these colours as they were reoccuring in common glitch art, technical glitches tend to have very vibrant, contrasting colours which I wanted to use from my research and experimentation to make the glitch stand out a lot more. I used a few different glitching techniques that I found effective in my research and experiments, ranging from long strips of the subject being digitally manipulated and shifted side to side to show that the image is in fact corrupt. I also used a technique the Magno introduced to me, in which I blocked out my models blank facial expression with mult-coloured lines to give off a glitchy effect, whilst keeping the original frame visible for a little amount of time to ensure my theme comes across to the viewer. I used many tools on photoshop from my experiments to my final piece, however I used tools such as the smudge tool and certain overlay effects like subtract in all of my final pieces. These were definitely effective discoveries from  my experiments as they allowed me to imply a fragmented personality that we see in society today. This is because they were very bold and strong ways to manipulate my frames in order to make the gif look effective and realistically broken. My chosen photographs were great to use in this theme because of my shutter speed experiments and effects that allowed me to show, through the train window that my model was passing by with their blank facial expression implying a uninterested and unmoved feeling in public. The train photographs were used as a way to get other people from the public in to my photo, whilst still showing that my model is unaffected and maybe even oblivious to the other peoples existence. I feel I was successful in showing that the people of todays society tend to look to technology for social comfort rather than the physical public, I showed well that my model was corrupt for not interacting with the people around them. I like my final piece's main art as I used a weaving technique that was a great way to manipulate the figure of the model and make their face and surroundings look broken while still getting their uninterested expressions in for a serious effect in showing this generations newly found obsession with their own little individual digital lives. If I could change anything in my final piece it would be the use of smaller lines in cutting my photographs. this is because it made it a little harder to make out the models expression compared to the thicker lines I used in my experiment, however, I like the thinner lines in terms of final outcome and varying colours.
