Intentions:

“gLItcH.”

In this project I want to capture people passing by areas without truly taking notice of their surroundings. Passing by means to leave something unaffected and unnoticed. I like the concept that hundreds of people pass by catering for their own individual lives and needs, not noticing each and other person around them.

What I intend to achieve during this exam is some photographs that represent this idea of being alone and unimportant in your own little digital world. In our modern world people rely too much on technology and use social media to interact rather than actually interacting with people. It creates a darker and dreamier sense to life as we are always around other people but we pass by them without interacting.

My primary sources will be pictures of train stations and people interacting in town. I like the idea of trains passing by someone on the platform holding hundreds of people who do not affect their life or even acknowledge it. What I intend to do is take a model to a train station or on a train in Newcastle and position them facing the tracks and looking out the window. I may experiment with them blankly staring at the camera or away to represent the idea of unawareness of the people surrounding them as if they are not there or taking more notice in social media on their phone rather than other people in real life.

I may digitally enhance the photo by adding glitch effects to it using Photoshop. This may represent modern society’s obsession with media and technology and how it is causing our real social lives to suffer or Glitch. I also like the effect of the train passing by really fast and using a slow shutter speed to capture the movement.

In order to achieve the photographs I want I will have to use a DSLR with the appropriate settings available. This will have to include Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO. I will also have to use a tripod to make sure the photo is steady and allow me to position it in better areas without being unintentionally blurry and distorted.
