This photoshoot was in the style of the artist Hopper who created paintings of window lit areas, with exaggerated shadows and a highly contrasting back and foreground that helps the subject of his artwork stand out with a very bright and eyecatching impact. I took inspiration from his artwork as I wanted to focus on the effect lighting has on a photograph. Just like his, I wanted to imply that inside the cafe (house in my photographs) is where you would be most comfortable and safe, within the boundaries of the light. I wanted to capture the light glowing outwards from within to experiment with the way artificial light pours out of your windows and any space possible.
For the majority of my photographs I was effective in capturing the contrast between light and dark, however a few of my photographs were not framed as well as I could have framed them preventing me from getting enough of the dark space into the shot. This is why I took more in the same style to ensure I had a nice frame and a large amound of dark as well as light to help me imply the darkness creates a menacing atmosphere.

This shoot allowed me to develop my ideas from lighting and the way it creates a positive atmosphere in towns to lightint within a home and how it implies safety and comfort.

This photograph demonstrates the contrast between inside and outside the comfort of our home well and just like Hoppers work, creates a protected feeling from where the light is illuminating. However, the position and cropping of this photograph does not allow me to capture enough darkness to provide the contrast I want.

As well, this photograph uses shadows and darkness well to contrast the safety within the home, however I will have to change position and frame the photographs better as this photograph does not conform to the aesthetically pleasing rule of thirds rule well and feels rather rugged.

This photograph also has a very well presented contrast and allows the viewer to see the difference between the dark and harsh streets and the warmth of our homes. The window acts as a shield between the darkness and the light and I could interpret this into my installation by getting frames that look like window.

Again, I did not think about the contrast of the dark and light at the time and decided I would attempt to capture more darkness by framing my photographs better, however the softness of the light in this photograph is a lot more comforting than the harsh light previous so I thought of using the same area in my next photographs to prevent light flares.

This is my favourite photograph from my Hopper shoot as it is framed well and has a bold contrast between light and dark, enhancing the protecting the light and the window provides us against the menacing shadows of the outside world. Light brightens up our lives and this photograph proves that as we can be care free and happy in our safe and comfortable homes.
