‘Northern-Comfort’

I am attempting to capture a positive atmosphere in the streets, city and home during the night and day using artificial and natural lighting and colours that create and draw out a feeling of comfort and safety. The photographs will have a lot of lighting and visual depth to it because I am using photo enhancing software to brighten up the images and make them look more bold and illuminating than what they really are. I am trying to take advantages of the lights that are already there from the buildings and the bridge and shining in from the window.

The photos will have to be taken either at night or during the day so that I can create a mix of natural and artificial lightint that I will then go on to manipulate artificially using AMY FRIENDS Pinhole effect and digitally to contrast my photos even more if I need to.

This will take place in Newcastle and at home for my experimenting with the strenght, position and type of lighting. I will have to use a tripod to ensure the camera stays steady for all of my photographs during the slow shutter speed photographs that will enhance the artificial lightint of the city at night. I need to make sure I get a long view of the city maybe from above or across one side of the bridge to ensure I get a great landscape photo so that enough lighting is captured to create my comforting and safe atmosphere. I will either use my HD camera phone, my Bridge camera or a DSLR. I may need a tripod to keep the camera in the exact same place for each photo.
I will also need diffusing equiptment for my artificial lighting experiments which will help me create a darker but still contrasting view of my model inside the house. I could also wait until it is an overcast day to take advantage of the natural light diffusing clouds.

I attempted to shoot at different times of the day for each shoot in order to experiment with natural lighting. Shooting on different days and at different points of that day allows me to present the difference that weather, time and area makes on a photograph in terms of lighting and atmosphere.
For example, due to photoshoot 1 taking place between 6-8 on a clear day, my photographs came out very vivid often with silhouettes and emphasised shapes and lines on the streets and buildings of Newcastle. This is due to the low sun bouncing light throughout the streets rather than from above and from my model standing in front of the sun.
