For this set of photographs I wanted to imply the feeling of safety and comfort from light. Inspired by 'Home Comforts' I went around my house and took pictures in which light was the main source of safety. This allowed me to prove that light can turn a sinister scene into a calm and loving one, especially through digital and physical enhancement.
The use of artificial light reminds me of how modern technology and light sources are so easy and available that we surround ourselves with them and use them as a source of comfort to ensure our safety in our homes. We surround ourselves with bright lights to keep our paths illuminated and open, whereas in the dark we may feel more frightened and threatened.
This is also why we feel a lot more comfortable going out into the daylight rather than the night, it is proof alone that we depend on the light to brighten our days and make us feel safer than we may feel in the dark. I want to use these ideas and enhance them by magnifying the light we use for comfort to exaggerate how much comfort it actually provides.
