Northern Comfort
![]() This was my first attempt at pinhole art, I used stabbing tools of various sizes to help me insinuate that the light is seeping in and surrounding the model in a collection of orbs that are just enhanced light, it changes the atmosphere and makes the photograph more alive and safe than if it were left. | ![]() This experiment used pins to create pinholes that were much smaller and bunched together a lot more, it makes it look like the light is falling down the stairs and surrounding the lightest areas enhancing the light that is already there and creating a brighter and much more lively atmosphere. | ![]() Due to the paper being thin there were a few problems with pinholing the picture. This is why for my final piece I have decided to use thick card and photograph paper to make sure my picture does not split. |

![]() By pinholing the lights that I already captured in my photographs I can create a realistic and enhanced image that simply magnifies the light that is already there and allows the life of the photograph to stand out and capture the liveliness we get from the lights in our homes and the city. | ![]() Much like the previous image, I simply enhanced the light that was present to show how light can cause an image to be much more lively and bright, creating a sense of comfort and warmth in the safety of our lit streets and homes. | ![]() I also attempted to use a thin layer of coloured tissue paper to see if it had an effect on the atmosphere of the photo by changing the colour of the light. I found that the warmer colours made photographs seem a lit calmer and homely where as cool toned colours or neon colours made photographs look more awake and lively due to the vividness of the light that passes through. |

Warm toned colours tend to create a sense of comfort through association to fire and heat. It can create a warmer photo and just like in this picture make a photo look a lot more enticing than a pure white light.

Cool toned light tends to be more unnatural and creates a lively tone. I will not be using cool toned lights in my home comfort final piece because I want to imply a calm and safe feeling rather than a lively feeling that neon lights tend to give off. This can explain why neon signs and lights in public places tend to shine at night.
